Accessibility Statement
Pooky Books believes the web should be usable by everyone, regardless of ability. We're committed to making pookybooks.com conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
- AA target
- WCAG 2.2
- 2 day response
- Quarterly audits
1. What we do
- Semantic HTML5 — proper landmarks, headings, lists, and form labels.
- Keyboard-navigable — every interactive element is reachable and operable with Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys.
- Visible focus rings — high-contrast outlines on every focusable element.
- Color contrast ≥ 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components.
- Captions and transcripts on all video content.
- Text resizable to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Screen-reader tested with VoiceOver, NVDA, and JAWS.
- Skip-to-content link for keyboard users.
- Reduced-motion support — respects
prefers-reduced-motionat the OS level. - Forms with explicit labels, error messages, and required-field indicators.
2. Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define three levels of conformance: A, AA, and AAA. We target AA. We last audited this site on 15 December 2025 against WCAG 2.2.
3. Known limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Custom cursor: the decorative cursor on desktop is layered atop system cursor fallback. We do not rely on cursor visuals for critical interaction. All controls remain reachable and operable without the custom cursor.
- Animation: we use motion to enhance the experience. We disable animations when users prefer reduced motion. Some content may still animate subtly in ways that could trigger vestibular sensitivity — please let us know if you encounter this.
- Third-party embeds: podcast players and video embeds inherit their own accessibility characteristics. We choose providers with strong a11y track records, but cannot guarantee WCAG conformance on third-party surfaces.
- Archived PDFs: older case-study PDFs may not be fully tagged. We're re-tagging them on a rolling basis.
4. Assistive technologies we test with
- VoiceOver (macOS, iOS)
- NVDA (Windows)
- JAWS (Windows)
- TalkBack (Android)
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking
- Switch control on iOS and Android
- ZoomText
5. Reporting an accessibility issue
If you encounter a barrier on this site, please email accessibility@pookybooks.com with:
- The URL of the page
- What you were trying to do
- The assistive technology you were using (browser, screen reader, version)
- What happened vs. what you expected
We typically respond within 2 business days and aim to fix critical barriers within 30 days.
6. Escalation
If we don't resolve an issue to your satisfaction, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice (ADA), the European Commission (Web Accessibility Directive), or your regional regulator. We genuinely want to hear from you first, though — most issues are faster to fix than to escalate.
7. Continuous improvement
We integrate accessibility checks into our development process, run quarterly manual audits, and engage external auditors annually. This page is updated whenever our conformance status changes materially.
